The NHL 94 for Mega Drive is widely regarded as one of the main classics of sports games. With that in mind, EA today announced the launch of NHL 94 Rewind, a pre-order bonus for the NHL 21.
NHL 21 will be released on October 16 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and any player who purchases the game until then will receive a free NHL 94 Rewind on October 30.
This initiative is similar to what EA Vancouver did with the NHL 14 through the so-called “Anniversary Mode,” which essentially took the control scheme of the NHL 94 for the teams and squads of the time, but still used the same presentation and graphic package as rest of NHL 14.
This time, NHL 94 Rewind takes it a step further, using 16-bit graphic classics, including the star below the player being controlled and its number and position in a retro-styled font.
The official website has a gallery showing the look of 15 of the NHL teams on Rewind. There is still no confirmation as to whether there will be a separate launch of NHL 94 Rewind on October 30 and, if so, what it will be worth.
