The author of the Dragon Quest series Yuji Horii was awarded during the last edition of the Game Developer Conference with the Lifetime Achievement Awards, reserved only for the most important personalities of the videogame industry. The developer briefly talked about the studio’s upcoming projects during the award’s withdrawal, stating several announcements planned regarding new video games and Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate.
“Hello everyone, here, Yuji Horii, I would like to thank the jury for awarding me the prestigious GDC Lifetime Achievement Award,” said the author. “As a child, I loved manga and dreamed of becoming a manga artist, but with the passing of the years and the arrival of PCs, I began to develop an equally great passion for technology […] Dragon Quest is similar to a manga, with a story that evolves through short conversations between characters. It is a playable computer manga. My team and I are currently working on the latest installment of the series, Dragon Quest XII, and many other games. I hope the fans worldwide appreciate them as much as they have enjoyed Dragon Quest XI. Expect announcements coming very soon! “.
Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate was announced in May 2021, but we know it’s been in development for a few years. We can expect the first trailer by the end of 2022, while for the release, we will have to wait until at least 2023.
