Square Enix and BB Studio have announced that Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes Offline is set for release on September 15, the day after which it will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam. The launch will take place, for now, exclusively in Japan.
They also revealed that the giant expansion, titled Dragon Quest X: The Sleeping Hero and the Guiding Ally Offline, scheduled for release next fall, has been delayed to spring 2023.
Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes Offline is a project that intends to make a remake of Dragon Quest X by completely removing the MMO elements and replacing them with mechanics that make up a traditional, offline, and single-player experience.
The original Dragon Quest X is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Square Enix. It is the tenth entry in the main line of games in the Dragon Quest franchise. It was originally released in 2012 for the Wii, later tweaked for the Wii U, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, and Nintendo 3DS, with all versions supporting cross-play.
Besides a Chinese version for Windows, the game has never been distributed outside of Japan.
