After several years of reports, Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate was officially announced in May this year. However, it turns out that the upcoming production will not be just another installment of this popular JRPG.
The head of Square Enix revealed that players should expect a big breakthrough because the mentioned title will revolutionize the Dragon Quest series and mark the next 10 to 20 years of development of this series of games. Mr. Yosuke Matsuda recently gave an interview in the Japanese magazine Famitsu, where he stated:
“Dragon Quest 12 is being developed with the development of the Dragon Quest series in mind for the next 10 to 20 years.”
What exactly could Mr. Matsuda mean? It’s tough to say, but the heroes of Dragon Quest 12 may also appear in future installments of the series, which would certainly be a breath of fresh air in the world of Dragon Quest.
“There are elements of Dragon Quest that we will not change. But there is a need for some new features. After all, the series has to evolve all the time,” added the head of Square Enix.
At the moment, we know that the upcoming game Dragon Quest 12 will be devoid of turn-based gameplay mechanics. The duels will take place in real-time.
The most recent installment, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, debuted in Japan in July 2017, but the western premiere took place only a year later. This title is available on PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch (also 3DS in Japan). Unfortunately, it is not known when Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate will be available for sale. We know, however, that the premiere of this title will take place simultaneously in Japan and on the Western market.
The creators promise that this part of Dragon Quest will have darker, slightly more adult content. Players will have to make many tough decisions. As soon as additional information is related to this title, we will provide it to you immediately.
