On January 23, some Dark Souls Discord group users had discovered serious vulnerability issues on PC for the entire trilogy, with the game code for Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls 3 having serious flaws in safety. In particular, it seems that on PC, hackers can use an RCE (Remote Code Execution) exploit to take control of other players’ PCs to discover sensitive data, steal login credentials, install malware or make online purchases. Today FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have recognized the seriousness of the problem and have extended the stop to online services.
PC players, therefore, will not be able to play any chapter of the trilogy online at least until February 25. Fortunately, the problem does not extend to the Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation versions, but the situation remains worrying because of the imminent launch of Elden Ring. We look forward to the next update from Bandai Namco and FromSoftware.
