Seasoned modder Luke Ross is working on bringing Cyberpunk 2077 to virtual reality. If all goes to plan, the tool will be released in January.
Ross is the creator of the REAL mods for GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, which made Rockstar’s production compatible with VR goggles. A talented developer recently voted on his Patreon, asking his supporters what title he should be up to. Cyberpunk 2077 has just won.
In an interview with PC Gamer, the modder stated that the REDengine 4 engine is quite good for converting to virtual reality and that the default first-person view mode is an added convenience. Ross was already working in more difficult conditions, for example, preparing the Mafia Trilogy VR, for which he had to develop his own “artificial” FPP camera.
The author admits that he will only now tackle Cyberpunk 2077 because of the previous instability of the game and some serious bugs.
Interestingly, work is already underway on the next VR conversion. The title is a surprise, but Ross revealed that the production is based on DirectX 12 and takes place in an open world. PC Gamer suspects that it is Horizon Zero Dawn or The Witcher 3.
