This Saturday, on its PAX Online panel, Gearbox Software confirmed versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X of Borderlands 3. Players who own the game on PS4 and Xbox One will be able to upgrade for free.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Borderlands 3 will run in 4K resolution and 60 frames per second in single-player mode. Gearbox says players on current generation consoles will bring all the downloadable content they purchased and their saved files to the next generation edition.
Borderlands 3 for next-generation consoles will also come with new cooperative features: four-player split screens for local multiplayer and two-player vertical split screens. The vertical split-screen is also coming to the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game via a free update.
Gearbox has additional updates in progress for Borderlands 3, including new skill trees for Vault Hunter classes, a new game mode, and new action skills as part of the paid downloadable content. The developer also suggested that cross-play will be available in 2021.
In PAX Online, Gearbox detailed one of these new skill trees. The FL4K “Trapper” skill tree “emphasizes shields and survivability for FL4K and your pet”. FL4K’s new action skill, Gravity Snare, is a crowd control trap ability that throws enemies into the air and throws them to the ground. FL4K will also receive a new pet, a Hyperion Loaderbot.
