Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night had an update adding a classic mode last month, but the IGN website revealed that the update added a second secret mode – 1986 Mode is a challenging version of the classic mode.
When you go to the Classic Mode title screen and enter the Konami Code (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Square and Ball), you will see “1986 Mode” appear the bottom of the screen.
The mode is like an altered version of the classic, changing Miriam’s clothes’ colour and making the game much more difficult. Since the update, the 1986 Mode has not been discovered and aims to add an even more traditional platform feel.
The mode name refers to the year the original Castlevania was released, and many of the changes it adds reflect the 1986 version. These changes include:
- Without Backflip
- Without Backstep
- No slide
- Mid-air control is reduced
- Can’t jump on the stairs
- Extended whip is not available
- Cannot stand/crouch in the middle of the whip animation
