Ahead of the upcoming release of Biomutant, the new apocalyptic open-world adventure based on mutant animals, Game Informer has released two videos showing a long preview of the character’s combat and customization.
After four years of development, the open-world adventure Biomutant will arrive between us on May 25th. The latest preview of developer Experiment 101’s game comes courtesy of Game Informer. In the first video, there are about ten minutes of combat and exploration in the colorful post-apocalyptic world of Biomutant.
For potential players who want to see what kind of mutant animal they will play with, the second video focuses instead on character customization. Through a sort of editor, players will choose which race of mutant they wish to develop genetically, each with their pros and cons based on statistics.
For example, Primals are agile and skilled, Dumdons compensate lower intellect statistics with extra force, and Rex mutants have a uniform distribution of statistics across multiple categories. As for statistics, players can invest in vitality, strength, intellect, charisma, agility, and luck. Each statistic adds extra numbers to a character and determines what a player’s mutant will look like before starting their adventure.
Resistances can also be selected, allowing a player to withstand the effects of heat, biological hazards, cold, and radioactivity. The ultimate character customization option is for the type of class players want to specialize in. Commandos get a bonus for ranged weapons, Psi-Freaks have psychic energy skills, Saboteurs are stealth explorers, Dead-Eyes are skilled thieves with instant reload skills, and Sentinels are experts in defensive tactics.
Biomutant will launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC this month and be playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S thanks to backward compatibility.
