Battlefield 2042 will fill the gaps in 128 player matches with AI bots, allowing the lobbies to be full even with real players missing. These bots can also help facilitate Battlefield 2042 gameplay as a co-op game or solo experience.
As revealed in an update to the Battlefield EA Answers page, Soldiers IA is a new bot system added to Battlefield 2042. “Another new feature is the introduction of AI Soldiers (Artificial Intelligence) to the series,” says the post. “As a multiplayer-only experience, it’s important for us to allow players to play Battlefield 2042 whenever and however they want.”
The AI soldiers will ensure that matches reach 128 players. However, they also have other objectives. Despite being a multiplayer game, these bots also help turn Battlefield 2042 into a co-op or single-player game.
In Conquest and Breakthrough modes, players can opt for a co-op experience that “allows players to play together with friends against AI soldiers” or even a solo version for those playing alone. “If the player wants to improve their skills in multiplayer, they can even play alone against AI soldiers,” reveals the blog.
Before Battlefield 2: Modern Combat was released on PlayStation 2 and Xbox, Battlefield games were exclusively multiplayer and had no campaigns. For this reason, Battlefield 2042 is a milestone in the history of the series, an option to finally experience full-scale combat without having to play with other players.
