Battlefield 2042 received a lot of criticism in its launch month, and DICE and EA have already announced that they want to fix most of the game’s problems by the end of the year. Between one update and another, the developers have also decided to reintroduce two 64-player game modes on PC and next-gen, namely Conquest and Breakthrough, already active and available only for a limited time.
Despite the excellent reception received in the months preceding the game’s release, the 128-player matches did not exactly meet the hoped-for success, given that for many fans, the excessive size of the maps on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X / S often leads long dead times between firefights. On the EA forums, many users have asked to return to 64-player matches in reduced maps, with intense and close combat, and now DICE has pleased the fans by proposing the same modes available on last-gen.
64-player games are active right now, but they won’t stay forever. The developers have confirmed that these are simple timed modes and will only be available for a limited time, probably until the end of the Christmas period. In case of success of the playlists in question, however, it cannot be excluded that DICE proposes them as alternatives to 128-player matches, introducing them permanently in the game.
