Apex Legends on Nintendo Switch runs at 30FPS in both docked and handheld mode. The game has an optional crossplay option.
In docked mode, the game runs at 720p, and the handheld mode uses 576p resolution. It is possible to play at 30fps in both ways. The game is playable on almost all other platforms at 60FPS. Players can use the built-in gyroscope on Switch to aim, and the UI has been tweaked to bring everything into focus.
It was also revealed that it is possible to play with other platforms on Nintendo Switch. This is not mandatory, and the option can be turned off, in which case Switch players will only play with Switch players.
Console players and PC players have a better frame rate and resolution to play with, and therefore they would have an advantage over the Switch. So turning off crossplay can be an advantage for anyone who plays Switch.
The interview adds that the engine that Apex Legends runs on is the same on console and PC. The Panic Button team created the Switch support. That studio is responsible for the game’s port.
Apex Legends is available on Nintendo Switch starting today, March 10, 2021.
