Square Enix has set a live stream for May 27 to celebrate Dragon Quest’s 35th anniversary. The event will see the new lineup of the Dragon Quest series, so important announcements are also not excluded. Perhaps among these, there will also be space for the expected Dragon Quest 12.
2021 is the year of anniversaries, it seems. From The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and Pokemon to Sonic, Resident Evil, and many more, some noteworthy gaming properties celebrate important anniversaries this year. Another is Dragon Quest, and Square Enix seems to have planned a special live stream to celebrate it.
The event was set for Thursday 27 May. May 27th happens to be Dragon Quest Day, so that we can expect something very special. Sure, Square Enix says the stream “will introduce the next line-up of the Dragon Quest series,” with the participation of series co-creator Yuji Horii. The stream will also see interpreters translating Japanese to English in real-time, a first for Dragon Quest streams.
Dragon Quest 11 was launched in Japan almost four years ago, so the hope is that Dragon Quest 12 will be announced on this occasion. More than a year ago, Horii reported that the next game in the series was still a long way off, but let’s hope the time is now ripe enough for an announcement.
For what it’s worth, Horii reported earlier this year that Square Enix would be making “all kinds of announcements” to celebrate Dragon Quest’s 35th anniversary, so hopefully, there will be some juicy news coming this May 27. Stay tuned.
