2K Sports, a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive, has signed an agreement with LEGO to produce new IP-based sports video games, following the expiration of the exclusive partnership with Warner Bros. studio TT Games. The first project now in production would be a soccer video game developed by Sumo Digital ( Hood: Outlaws & Legends, Sackboy: A Big Adventure ) to be released in 2022 before the final phase of the world championship.
VGC also reveals that 2K Sports and LEGO have already agreed to produce a second title, an open world racing video game developed by WWE 2K22 and NBA 2K studio, Visual Concepts. The game in question could be revealed on February 11 by the studio’s job offers or the “open-world racing video game based on a major license.”
In the last twenty years, LEGO intellectual property has only been used by the British studio Traveller’s Tales, which made the LEGO Star Wars series and LEGO Batman, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, and LEGO DC Super-Villains, to name a few. 2K Sports seems less interested in action games and would like to take the series into uncharted territory.
